Welcome to Northwestern Cardiology
Northwestern Cardiology provides expert heart care right here in our community. We work closely with the University of Vermont Medical Center and Copley Hospital to give you access to a full team of heart specialists—without having to travel far.
Our caring team helps you understand your heart health and get the care you need, whether you’re managing a long-term condition or recovering from a heart issue.
What we treat
We diagnose and manage a wide range of heart and vascular conditions, including:
- Coronary artery disease and heart attack recovery—helping patients manage narrow or blocked arteries and recover safely after a heart attack
- Arrhythmias (irregular heart rhythm)—including atrial fibrillation and other conditions that affect how your heart beats
- Heart failure and cardiomyopathy—supporting patients with weakened heart muscles or reduced heart function
- Congestive heart conditions—treating fluid buildup and shortness of breath caused by the heart not pumping effectively
- High-risk vascular issues—including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and circulation problems, which can raise your risk for heart problems
Expert care close to home
Our cardiology team is part of a strong partnership between Northwestern Medical Center, the University of Vermont Medical Center, and Copley Hospital. This partnership means more expert providers and more appointment options—right here in our community.
Here’s how our team works together to care for you:
Dr. Steven Anisman and nurse practitioner Alexis Messak are part of NMC’s team and see patients full time in St. Albans
Dr. Tracy Hagerty and Dr. Jan Denkmann travel from UVM Medical Center and see patients regularly at NMC
Dr. Adam Kunin comes from Copley Hospital to care for patients at NMC as part of our shared cardiology program
This team-based approach helps us:
Offer more appointments to meet community needs
Provide expert care for a wide range of heart conditions—all at NMC
Continue expanding services as part of NMC’s long-term plan to grow heart care in our region

If it is and you’d like to schedule a telemedicine visit, we will then give you instructions on how to make the connection, which will use NMC’s Patient Portal Virtual Visit functionality.
