Reorganization of GMT Bus Routes Benefits Trips Between Milton, Georgia, & St. Albans/NMC
To help save money, Green Mountain Transit (GMT) has been reorganizing its routes. In Chittenden County, unfortunately, there were cuts in services. But this process has also found some efficiencies that will likely benefit some community members. Starting Monday, August 25, GMT combined the Milton and St. Albans Commuters into one route, “Route 96.” They were both traveling north and south at approximately the same time, so combining them made sense.
In practice, this increases services for the folks who commute between Milton or Georgia and St. Albans. There will be 5 runs traveling north along Route 7 from Milton/Georgia to St. Albans (2 in the morning, 1 midday, and 2 in the evening) and 5 runs that travel south from St. Albans to Georgia/Milton. (2 in the morning, 1 midday, and 2 in the evening).
The new bus schedule can be found here: Franklin-County-BMG_8.25.25.pdf Keep in mind, some stops are “by request.” That means that once you’re on the bus, you can ask the bus driver to stop at a “by request” stop. Unfortunately, you cannot start your trip at a “by request” stop. Also, keep in mind that there are times when the bus doesn’t come directly to NMC, but to the St. Albans Park & Ride, which is very close to NMC’s campus.
These commuter routes do originate in Downtown Burlington coming north and return to Burlington when they’re headed south, so for folks looking to move between Burlington and St. Albans, the route is still available. Please note, this route has a $2 one-way regular fare with a maximum of $4/day or $50 monthly maximum. Discounted fares are $1 one-way, daily maximum of $2 and a $25 monthly maximum.
