Hospital & visitor hours
We ensure health access for our community 24/7. Our Main hospital entrance is open from 6 am – 8:30 pm. After 8:30 pm, please enter the hospital through the Emergency Department entrance.
Visiting Hours at Northwestern Medical Center are from 6 am to 9 pm every day, including holidays. Visiting Hours can be extended or restricted for reasons related to patient care. Our goal is to ensure that we provide a safe and healing environment for all our patients. Visitation is managed by the leaders of our inpatient units, feel free to ask your care team if you have questions about visiting hours.
No smoking policy
NMC is a tobacco-free facility. For the health and well-being of all, smoking, or the use of any tobacco, marijuana, or vaping products, is not allowed on NMC property. NMC property includes all buildings and grounds on the hospital campus.
You can quit and we can help. Visit www.802quits.org or call 1-800-QUIT-NOW for advice, quit tips, and access to coaching. You may even be able to access free gum, patches, and lozenges to support your efforts to quit!
No weapons policy
All weapons (guns, rifles, knives and other dangerous or deadly weapons) are prohibited in all Northwestern Medical Center on-campus and off-campus facilities, excluding those of law enforcement personnel.
These facilities include:
- Northwestern Medical Center main hospital
- Northwestern Medical Center Medical Office Building
- St. Albans Urgent Care
- Georgia Urgent Care
- Cobblestone Health Commons
- Doctors Office Commons
- Northwestern Ophthalmology
- Northwestern Physical Therapy—Enosburg
- Northwestern Physical Therapy—Georgia
- Congress & Main Building— Health Information Management
Surveillance cameras are in use throughout all Northwestern Medical Center facilities.
Individuals carrying weapons will be requested to store them in their vehicle until they exit the premises. Explosives are strictly prohibited on all Northwestern Medical Center properties, and our staff will not accept any form of explosive material for safekeeping.
Vermont law prohibits firearms in hospital buildings

Chapter 85: Weapons
§ 4023. Possession of firearms in hospital buildings prohibited
(a) A person shall not knowingly possess a firearm while within a hospital building.
(b) A person who violates this section shall be fined not more than $250.00.
(c) This section shall not apply to a firearm possessed by a federal law enforcement officer, or a law enforcement officer certified as a law enforcement officer by the Vermont Criminal Justice Training Council pursuant to 20 V.S.A. § 2358, for legitimate law enforcement purposes.
(d) Notice of the provisions of this section shall be posted conspicuously at each public entrance to each hospital.
(e) As used in this section:
- (1) “Firearm” has the same meaning as in subsection 4017(d) of this title.
- (2) “Hospital” has the same meaning as in 18 V.S.A. § 1902. (Added 2021, No. 87 (Adj. Sess.), § 1, eff. July 1, 2022.)
