Northwestern Medical Center is pleased to announce that Christopher Hickey has accepted the position of Chief Financial Officer at the hospital.  

With more than 32 years of experience in healthcare, Hickey most recently worked at Community, Work & Independence, Inc. in the Glens Falls region of New York as the Chief Financial Officer.  Community Work & Independence is a non profit human services organization that provides service to the developmentally disabled through 42 locations around Glens Falls. Hickey also worked as CFO at Northern Berkshire Healthcare in Massachusetts, and as the Vice President of Strategic Business Development and Support Services at Glens Falls Hospital.

Among his accomplishments, Hickey lists his service on the National Board of Directors for the Healthcare Financial Management Association as a career highlight. The HFMA is the preeminent member association in the country for healthcare finance and Hickey served as one of an 18-member board from 2001 to 2004.

“It is wonderful to have Chris’s level of experience and expertise as a hospital CFO,” said NMC’s CEO Jill Berry Bowen. “He is able to jump right in and provide immediate insight on opportunities to improve.  He is already having a positive impact on our operations.  I couldn’t be more pleased to have Chris guiding the changes necessary to respond to the pressures of healthcare reform.”

Hickey said that NMC’s community atmosphere drew him to the hospital. While he was worked at larger organizations in his career, he said that being a critical part of a small community will be very satisfying.

Family is important to Hickey, and he spends most of his free time with his wife Carol and four children. A volunteer fireman for almost 40 years, volunteerism is another important topic for NMC’s new CFO. He participated in many community boards including the YMCA, SPCA and also refereed high school girls basketball for 25 years.
