NMC’s New Emergency Department Opens Wednesday

On Wednesday, January 10, Northwestern Medical Center opens its newly renovated Emergency Department, featuring all-private patient rooms.

The Emergency Department (ED) has been operating in temporary space nearby, but by mid-morning on Wednesday patients will go back to using the original and permanent entrance for the ED.  Updated signage will direct patients and families to the correct entrance and patient parking directly outside the space will be reopened.

The renovated space is larger by 2,400 square feet with private rooms for all patients, with a total of 20 treatment spaces, increased from the previous number of 14 treatment spaces.

The new design will also increase capacity for patients experiencing mental health issues, offering four dedicated rooms for those community members whereas the current ED space only has one such room. Additionally, the new space will have greater capacity to provide greater infection control measures in the ED.
