NMC employs amazing people, and we will be publishing ongoing profiles to shine a spotlight on the team here as a way for you to get to know who we are, and what makes our organization special.
Department/Practice: Northwestern Cardiology
How Long at NMC? 15 years
What does your job entail? I perform all of the exercise stress tests, nuclear stress tests, and stress echocardiograms. I also work on Holter monitor data when it is returned from the patient in order to prepare it for the Cardiologist’s interpretation.
How does your role at NMC contribute to exceptional care?
Patients come to the Stress Lab thinking there is something wrong with their heart. Sometimes there is, sometimes there isn’t, but it’s my job to get them safely through the test and provide education along the way.
What is your favorite part of your job?
Meeting so many different people and listening to their stories. We often make a lot of conversation to distract from the anxiety of being there for a cardiac test.
What’s a good day at work look like to you?
A good day at work for me is one where all my patients show up, I have a medical assistant staffed for safety in the Stress Lab, and we run 6-8 stress tests where every patient leaves saying (or thinking) “Well, that wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be!”.
What is the last book you read?
The Book of Two Ways by Jodi Picoult
What do you like to do for fun?
Hiking, kayaking, camping, exploring, and traveling
You’re stranded on a desert island and can bring only three things with you – what are they?
My husband, Brad, and two sons, Logan and Bennett. Because if we’re going to be on a island, we might as well make an adventure out of it. Who better to adventure with than my family?
What would your perfect day off be like?
It has to be a summer day, warm and sunny. I’d enjoy a cup of coffee while everyone wakes up and then we head out for a hike and cool off afterwards at a lake or stream (or ocean if I’m really daydreaming). Finish the day off with dinner out (probably a burger and fries) and a big ole’ creemee.
What was the last thing you ate?
Sidewinders from the cafeteria
Cake? or pie?
Cake, preferably with an excessive amount of chocolate frosting
