NMC Recognizes Angie Aulis – an Extraordinary Nurse
Angie Aulis, RN of Northwestern Medical Center’s Family Birth Center was recently honored with The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.
The award was presented to Angie at an event on Thursday, August 29 in NMC’s Courtyard Café and the family who nominated her was present to thank her for her exceptional care. Their experience at NMC was not an easy one and yet they said they were welcomed and treated like royalty. Angie never left their side, and gave them and their baby outstanding, compassionate care.
Family Birth Center Nurse Manager Anna Gabaree said Angie always provides compassionate care in any patient situation – even the most trying ones. “It is truly an honor to work with her,” she said.
Chief Nursing Officer Michelle Buck said, “In my short time here at NMC, I have already learned what a great asset Angie is to our patients and families at the Family Birth Center. We are lucky to have Angie as part of our team!”
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, CA, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
Said Bonnie Barnes, FAAN, CEO and Co-Founder of The DAISY Foundation, “When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced first-hand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide patients every day and night. Yet these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the super-human work they do. The kind of work the nurses at NMC are called on to do every day epitomizes the purpose of The DAISY Award.”
NMC will continue to recognize outstanding nurses with the DAISY Award on a quarterly basis. If you would like to submit a nomination, click here.
