2026 Run / Walk for Jim Held in Memory of Mike Miller

This year’s Run/Walk for Jim event is being held in loving memory of Mike Miller. Mike was the late husband of St. Albans native Joe Calano who participated in last year’s run before his passing in August 2025 following a courageous battle with germ cell cancer.

Mike left a lasting impact on the people around him, and his loss has been deeply felt by many. We are honored to celebrate his memory at this year’s race, which is an event that brings people together in support, compassion, and community.

The annual Run/Walk is one of the largest fund-raisers for the Jim Bashaw Cancer and Catastrophic Illness Fund which supports residents of Franklin and Grand Isle Counties. Please consider running or walking at the event which will be held at Hard’Ack on Sunday, May 17, to honor Mike’s memory. Learn more about the race, which includes Kids Races on the St. Albans Recreation Department’s website. You can register online with the Recreation Department, or do same-day registration the morning of the event.

You can also help by donating to the Bashaw Fund online at this link.

About the Bashaw Fund

Families often do not realize all of the costs that are encountered when a family member is ill. The Bashaw Fund can help provide financial assistance for items such as:

  • Medications
  • Medical equipment and supplies
  • Transportation
  • Private care/respite care
  • Nutritional support
  • Clothing/prostheses

Requests for financial assistance for items not mentioned above will be considered if they are determined to be as a result of the health care problem. For an official, signed copy of the fund description, click here.

If you have been diagnosed with cancer or another catastrophic illness that will cause a financial burden on your family, and are a resident of either Franklin or Grand Isle Counties, you may be eligible to receive funds from The Jim Bashaw Cancer and Catastrophic Illness Fund. A member of the NMC Care Management team will work with you to explore all possibilities of how to support you financially during your illness. Sources of funding may include insurance benefits and entitlement programs, as well as the Jim Bashaw Fund.
