Mark Your Calendars for Healthy Hearts Event on February 7

Join Northwestern Medical Center at Healthy Hearts on the Move on February 7 and learn about how exercise and healthy eating can reduce your risks for heart disease. New this year, Healthy Hearts will offer physical fun in adult sessions as well as in family-style sessions to get people of all ages having fun while being active.  This year’s free-of-charge event takes place from 9 a.m. to noon at the St. Albans City Elementary School. Attendees can try out Zumba, yoga, hula hooping, Tai Chi and more! Each fitness activity will be taught by a local instructor and last 30 minutes.

In addition to the fitness activities, NMC will provide free blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol screenings as well as educational booths on a variety of heart-health related topics. Top it off with a free massage and this is an event you won’t want to miss.

“Taking that first step toward a healthier lifestyle can be a challenge, but this event will make it easy and fun,” says Jonathan Billings, Vice President of Planning & Community Relations. This is the third year NMC has put on this heart-health-focused event for the community. “Decreasing the risks of heart disease is incredibly important, and at Healthy Hearts, you can do it in a friendly atmosphere with your family. This year we anticipate an even bigger and better event than last year.”

Back from last year are the event “Passports” which help attendees track their own personal information about their heart health. Answer survey questions and get your passport stamped along a journey toward good health. Even small steps on that journey can make a big difference, and so all booths at the event will offer practical, simple suggestions for moving forward.

On top of all the active fun, free food, free health screenings, face-painting, and useful health information you can also entered to win a $300 gift certificate to Jay Peak Ski Resort! Do your heart a favor and mark your calendars now!
