St. Albans, VT (June 5, 2017) Two Franklin County students were recently presented with scholarships towards their health-related degree programs as part of the Northwestern Medical Center Health Professions Scholarship Program Benefit Dinner, at the Tyler Place Resort on May 24, 2017.

The two scholarships were given from the Martin H. Wennar, MD Health Education Fund, and were presented at a dinner featuring guest speaker Todd Bauman of NCSS who becomes their Executive Director later this summer. NMC CEO Jill Berry Bowen welcomed attendees and Marcia Perry Vice President of the Northern Tier Center for Health presented the awards to the honorees.

The Martin H. Wennar Health Professions Scholarships are presented to graduating high school seniors entering collegiate studies in a health care field. Scholarships are awarded based on academic merit and community service. This year, two $3,000 scholarships are awarded.

The 2017 recipients of the scholarships were Emily Woodward and Jenna Bourdeau, both students of Missisquoi Valley Union High School. Woodward plans to attend Colby Sawyer College, where she will study nursing, specializing in pediatric care. Bourdeau plans to attend the University of Vermont, where she will study cytotechnology, the study and interpretation of cells to detect cancers and other abnormalities.
