Is NMC Establishing Local Access to Endocrinology?

Yes! We are very excited to be adding access to Endocrinology as another important specialty service available here locally at NMC through our medical clinic partnership with the University of Vermont Medical Center. Beginning October 22, Dr. Kaitlyn Barrett will be seeing patients two days in NMC’s medical clinics.

Dr. Barrett is a Doctor of Osteopathy who did her fellowship and residency training at the University of Vermont after earning her D.O. degree at the New York Institute of Technology. Dr. Barrett will be available to patients seeking help with conditions including diabetes, thyroid disease, high cholesterol, and many others. She has shared that she has a family member with Type 1 diabetes and that was her “first introduction to the difficult intricacies of managing a chronic illness.” She says she finds it challenging and rewarding to treat patients with endocrine conditions, is passionate about preventative medicine, and enjoys the patient relationships which come from seeing patients over time.

This new presence will allow patients to have their endocrinology appointments here in Franklin County, reducing the barrier of travel for access to care. This local access approach has shown to be beneficial and appreciated, as it helps ensure individuals get the preventive care they need before health concerns escalate to more concerning levels. This access helps improve overall health and avoid more costly medical treatments.

Our focus on access to necessary care has been a consistent strategic emphasis for NMC, firmly grounded in our ongoing effort to efficiently meet our community’s needs. Our region may not necessarily have the population to sustain a full-time provider in a certain specialty. However, there will still be people within that population who do need access to that specialty. NMC’s medical clinics facilitate efficient access to specialty providers by hosting them a varying number of days per week or month based on the level of community need and provider availability. For specialties which are not needed full-time, NMC is overcoming the recruitment barrier through our partnership with UVMMC and we are exploring the use of telemedicine as a further way to ensure proper access to necessary expertise and care within our local community. Endocrinology joins Neurology as a part-time presence within NMC’s Medical Clinics. Their shared space is conveniently located at the front of NMC’s main campus. They are located between the Cardiology, Pulmonology, and Obstetrics & Gynecology practices. Their space is easily accessible from NMC’s front entrance, which features our free valet parking service, as well as from the Medical Office Building entrance.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Barrett to NMC’s medical clinics as we expand access to Endocrinology with an important local presence here on campus. For more information and to make an appointment, call our team at (802) 524-8852.
