Provider Guides for Diagnostic Imaging

Guides for Referring Providers

This ordering guide is meant to assist referring providers with ordering Diagnostic Imaging procedures from NMC. This guide includes common indications as well as recommendations for the most appropriate examination, and will help in prescribing and ordering the correct tests for your patients. It includes indications and recommendations to consider as well as CPT codes to use.

As a referring provider, your attention to these guides will help you and NMC Diagnostic Imaging provide our patients with high quality imaging services, using current best practices and safe imaging as recommended by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, the Image Gently Alliance, Safe Shielding standards, and Image Wisely.

It is our goal to provide you and your patients with the most appropriate and complete imaging examination. After a clinically appropriate order is placed, examinations may be further tailored to each patient’s specific condition. Thus, it is very important for the radiologist to be aware of the clinical question or specific condition in question so that the appropriate imaging can be performed.

Please understand if a representative from the radiology department contacts you regarding an order, they are working to ensure the correct study is being performed and that there is an accurate order for the given indication. Hopefully, these ordering guides will eliminate the need for follow up phone calls or faxes, which will minimize delays in care for our patients.
