NMC Earns "Gold Standard" Award for Excellence in Employee Wellness
 St. Albans, Vt-- Northwestern Medical Center was one of the top honorees in the 2009 Worksite Wellness Awards given out by the Vermont Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness & Sports at the 2009 Worksite Wellness Conference, held Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at the Capitol Plaza in Montpelier. NMC received a “Gold Standard” Award, the highest possible award, in recognition of the hospital’s outstanding employee wellness program and for sustaining a “Gold” level program over a number of years.
“This is a wonderful tribute to the investment NMC has made in the health and wellbeing of our employees,” said Pam Cross, RN, NMC’s Health Promotion Manager. “Our hospital continues to demonstrate its commitment to helping every one of our staff members live healthier, and it’s fantastic to be recognized for our ongoing efforts.”
NMC’s employee wellness program, Healthy Ü, was significantly enhanced in the past year, including the addition of financial incentives for employees who participate in different categories. Over 90% of employees met with a health coach for a health risk appraisal, biometric screenings, and creation of measurable goals. This year’s initiatives featured “Dump Your Plump,” a team competition that encouraged individuals to be physically active, eat healthfully, and watch their weight. Many other wellness programs and activities were offered through the course of the year to support employees’ efforts to be healthy.
Other local businesses, Barry Callebaut, Rock Tenn Missisquoi Mill, Northwestern Counseling & Support Services, Franklin County Home Health Agency, and Husky (Silver award) also received awards as part of the presentation. Other Vermont hospitals earning recognition were Fletcher Allen Health Care (Silver award) and Rutland Regional Medical Center (Gold award).
