NMC Celebrates 18,680 Hours of Volunteer Service
St. Albans, Vt.— Northwestern Medical Center hosted a Volunteer Recognition Luncheon on Friday, May 7th at the Bliss Memorial Auditorium in the St. Albans Historical Museum. In the calendar year 2009, volunteers provided 18,680 hours of service to NMC. Through a standard calculation of the value of volunteer service, these hours amount to a “value added” of $300,187.60 to NMC, and is the equivalent of 8.98 full time employees.
As part of the event, Jill Berry Bowen, NMC’s Chief Executive Officer, along with other hospital managers, shared words of thanks for the enormous contributions of the 152 volunteers who currently volunteer at the hospital.
Dot Dussault, of St. Albans, outgoing NMC Auxiliary President, also shared her thanks to the volunteers for their dedication and support of her role during her tenure. Dot introduced her successor, Don Mueller, of St. Albans. Don is the first male Auxiliary President in the history of the NMC Auxiliary.
Dolly MacNeil, Volunteer Services Manager, shared her “Top Ten Reasons to Volunteer at NMC.” Dolly also noted that the dedication of the volunteers always amazes her, and cited the recent snowstorm as a perfect example of their dedication. “When I woke up and saw the snow that morning, I wasn’t sure I wanted to shovel out and drive in to work,” joked Dolly. “Yet, when I arrived at the hospital, every single volunteer had arrived and was ready to work. That’s dedication!”
Doris Newton of St. Albans was presented with a corsage in recognition of her long-term volunteer status. Doris is currently the longest-term volunteer, having continuously served in this role for the past 22 years.
Susan Hartmann of St. Albans Town was noted for donating the most hours in 2009, having volunteered for a total of 704 hours. Other volunteers recognized for in this category were Kathy Hunter of St. Albans for providing 606 hours; Don Mueller of St. Albans for volunteering 564 hours; Donna Little of St. Albans for volunteering 552 hours; Regina Cochran of St. Albans for volunteering 518 hours; and Raymona Campbell of Swanton for volunteering 513 hours of service. These individuals were presented with a custom NMC duffel bag and a charm for their hours of service.
Anna Hurlbut of St. Albans was recognized for providing over 6,500 cumulative hours of service to NMC since she began volunteering at the hospital. Anna has volunteered at NMC since 1992.
