Interested in Pursuing Health Care as a Career?

  • Are you a high school student exploring your career options?
  • Are you an adult interested in going back to school to develop new skills?
If health care is an option you are considering, Northwestern Medical Center can help you discover the health care career that is right for you!
If you aren't quite sure which health career is the right match for you, visit the Champlain Valley Area Health Education Center's (CVAHEC) website to review their Health Careers Directory. This publication explores a broad array of health careers and educational preparation that is needed for those careers.

Once you've discovered the career path that is right for you, NMC can help you fund your education. NMC offers the following scholarships, designed to help support your educational path:

NMC's Scholarship / Work Experience Program: NMC offers the “Scholarship/Work Experience program” to increase the number of professionals in the fields of Nursing (RN or LPN), Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Medical Technology (MT or MLT), Physical Therapy/Physical Therapy Assistant, Occupational Therapy/Occupational Therapy Assistant, Speech Language Pathology, and Pharmacy. Students enrolled in approved programs receive both cash scholarships and employment at NMC. These awards are renewable . Typically, employment begins in entry-level positions throughout the hospital and grows to be more “clinical” as the student becomes more skilled. This program offers a unique opportunity for students to work in the hospital environment while studying for a career in healthcare.

This scholarship is not based on financial need — it is awarded based on a student’s academic performance and community service. One scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a career in nursing. The scholarships are funded through the Martin H. Wennar, MD, Health Education Fund.
