Tips for Visitors
Visiting Hours:
Suggested visiting hours are between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., in order to allow patients ample time to rest, and nurses and physicians time to care for patients. In special circumstances, including parents of newborns, children, and patients receiving palliative care services, accommodations may be made to allow family members and/or support persons to stay with patients around the clock. If your loved one has a roommate, please be respectful of the roommate’s needs. This year's flu season brings some additional challenges and considerations to visiting your loved ones in the hospital. Please click here to visit our flu season update page for the most up to date information on this topic.
Can’t visit your loved one in person? Try our online greeting card feature! Follow the easy instructions, and one of our staff members will deliver your card on your behalf.
Meals & Snacks:
For visitor convenience, the NMC Courtyard Café is open from 7:00 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. seven days a week. Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and dinner is served from 4:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. daily. Click here to view this week's menu at the Courtyard Cafe.
Vending machines are available for snacks and drinks on the first floor of the hospital in two locations: the vending area located next to the elevators and in the entry way to the Emergency Department. These machines are accessible 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
Please be sure to check with your loved one’s nurse or physician before providing any food or drinks to a patient, in case the patient is on a restricted diet.
The Gift Gallery:
This quaint gift shop is run by the NMC Auxiliary and staffed by volunteers, and offers a variety of necessary essentials, greeting cards, gift items, local newspapers, fresh flower arrangements, and much more. The Gift Gallery is located directly off the main lobby of the hospital, and is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Can't make it in to visit the shop in person? You can buy selected gifts and flowers right through the website! Click here to visit our online gift shop!
Smoking:
NMC is a smoke-free facility. Smoking, or the use of any tobacco products, is not allowed on NMC property. NMC property includes all buildings and grounds on the hospital campus.
The June Wakefield Memorial Library:
The June Wakefield Memorial Library at Northwestern Medical Center is available to patients and families 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is staffed by a medical librarian on a part time basis (current hours are posted on the library door). The library provides access to health information through computer searches, books, journals, videotapes, and pamphlets. Our aim is to help NMC staff, patients, their families and the general public to gather information to make informed decisions through independent and assisted research. Please call (802) 524-8448 for more information.
Free Wi-fi
Being hospitalized doesn’t mean being out of touch. We’re now providing free wireless internet access throughout the hospital so our patients and visitors can stay connected with their own laptops. If you do not have a laptop or you’ve left it at home, you can still access the internet through the public use computers available in the June Wakefield Memorial Library. |
